THE BLOG
I love music, and I love talking about music. I've been writing about music for quite a while now, in various past blogs, review sites and even in forums (remember those?). I do however also think that our own experiences with music are an integral part of what makes it special to us - that the personal angle is a very real thing and that there's little point in trying to ignore it. One of my limitations as a music fan is the inability to really describe my feelings when I'm presented with something new to me, and it's the reason why the traditional blog format of tackling everything new and shiny has always been something I've struggled with. For a long time I've also wanted a personal review library of sorts that reflects what I'm about when it comes to music and as a way to compile my thoughts on my personal collection. And thus, I created Everything Spins.
This isn't a blog about the latest things that are happening in music right now or reviews of brand new albums - you have so many more sites devoted for that, ones that are far better than anything I could ever produce. Instead, this is a blog about music that's been loved and listened to for a while. My intention is to go through my ever-growing music collection album by album in semi-random order, reviewing and writing about these albums as viewed through my particular lenses. These writing are all entirely subjective and should be treated as such, and I have no pretensions that anything here is objective. I try to, obviously, to describe each release in a way that gives a good idea of the artist and the release in question even to those who aren't acquainted with them already - understanding the context behind each release is important to truly understand the releases themselves, in my point of view.
I have no intention of being super vehement about keeping this up to date. Artists release new albums and I tend to buy most of them pretty close to the release, but I am not going to post about them as soon as I hear them. The entire point here is that I've lived with everything listed here for some time, allowing myself to become truly familiar with each release: thus, posting about things as soon as they appear defeats the whole point. So yes, there will be some gaps in the discographies, and I intend to fill those gaps eventually. Just not straight away. The only time I'll make an exception to this rule is the traditional end-of-year top 10 lists, because I love end-of-year top 10 lists.
My genre preferences are slightly centered around indie/alternative rock and pop and singer/songwriter types, but is far from limited to them; on these pages there'll also be various kinds of electronic music, full-on pop, some harder riffs, a whole load of Finnish stuff thanks to my Nordic roots and a bunch of soundtracks, especially an irrationally large amount of Sonic the Hedgehog ones...
The blog title comes from Hot Chip's song "Motion Sickness" - "Everything spins on my hip / On my compact disc".
THE WRITER
Hello!
You can call me Flint - not my real name but it's one that I tend to go by among friends and the internet folks. I'm of Finnish origin, but I've based my adventures in the UK for a good while now. I've had some past music blogs as well, so if you happen to have bumped into the remote corner of the internet where Indie Paws and Rambling Fox existed back when they were active... I'm the same Flint.
My blog contents mirror my writings on RateYourMusic, where you can find some additional reviews I won't post here (CD singles, et al) as well as some additional lists.
